Hi guys!
First and foremost I hope you are all doing well in these crazy times, the longer they go on for the harder it is getting but keep going! I would like to say a few things before getting into this weeks blog.
I did not post last week, apologies however I needed to take some time for myself and I’m sure you can all understand that- I will post twice this week to make up for this.
Secondly, this is quite a concerning sensitive issue which I am going to talk about today and people do tend to change words and make them out to be what they are not so it has taken me a while to think about exactly what it is I am going to say and how I will communicate it.
Racism. This term is used when describing the act of discrimination towards races’. My question is, why does this concept exist? Why is it that we need a term to define this act of horror and disgust? It should not be given so much power to be identified with a name. It should not subsist on ethnic minorities.
The need for racism is something I will never understand. The use of derogatory language against people is absolutely despicable and warrants no place in this world. It enrages me to see the excessive lengths minority groups have to go to just so that they can gain equality in this prejudice society. The twisted reality of the situation is that it is these protests and rages which are getting the media’s attention. This acts like reinforcement for the minority groups and so they continue because they felt like they are being heard and being heard is the first step to change. This inequality is cruelty.
I would like to address the George Floyd situation. Many people have said that “The incident happened in America so why are people around the world so enraged?” That is not the point, the point is that the black community have a force, they are connected and have a strong power called unity. Unity, unison in this situation is so influential.
Black rights have been a concern for the black community for centuries and when one of your own dies it feels like a loss because its almost like in all these years after all these generations with all these protests and voices nobody is listening to the struggles you are facing. Being judged and looked differently at when you walk into a room or public place, knowing already that you will not get the same opportunities as a non-coloured individual Is heartbreaking.
There are ways and means of changing situations and personally although these acts of violence are getting attention I do not think that in the long run they are creating a positive image.
If you stand for what you believe in the negotiate and make small sacrifices, keep it consistent and one day a change will occur
